On our journey back to Vietnam, Mum & I were very spoilt as we were unexpectedly upgraded for free. The 16 hour flight just flew by! Thank you British Airways!!
Normally I get very excited when we descend to SGN as I love to look at the landscape, however it was very cloudy & I have no idea how the pilot was able to land the air plane. We landed in Saigon (everyone still calls HCM City, Saigon) around 18.15 & it was pitch black, very warm at 76 degrees. For once I was glad it was raining!
You can only get VN Dong in Vietnam, so the best place to get some money for a cab etc is at the airport. ACB (Asia Commercial Bank) is the best place for its exchange rates & there is no commission.
At present the exchange rate is in favour of the GBP Pound & the pound is up from the last time we were here.
GBP = 29,000.00
EUR = 25,330.00
USA = 17,803.00
CAN = 15,633.00
AUS = 14,435.00
The Metropole Hotel is lovely & modern, close to Ben Thanh Market & the staff very friendly & helpful. I do hope that I manage to secure a good deal with this hotel for the OR April 2010 Vietnamese Adoptees Reunion! Monday I have an appointment to speak with the manager, so fingers crossed I get a better deal.
I’ve already called Son Michael Pham & we will be meeting the older orphans from his Teach Me to Fish programme for a celebratory reunion meal tomorrow.
Time for mum & me explore the area & to eat some real Vietnamese Pho!
Wish you were here!
Love & light,
